great golf

Charleston golf courses offer exceptional variety and challenge. Discover world-class golf situated on breathtaking coastal terrain, ranging from true links style to tight wooded lowcountry layouts. Throughout the Charleston, South Carolina area, you'll find the best efforts of the world's top architects: Pete Dye, Tom Fazio, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Rees Jones, Arthur Hills, and Robert Trent Jones, Sr. to name just a few. Many of these courses are nestled amid wonderful communities made up of luxurious homes suitable to a wide range of prices. Below are a few of these golfing communities but for a more comprehensive look at golf in the lowcountry, visit Charleston Golf Guide.

kiawah

Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, and Wild Dunes offer resort-style living with a very close proximity to the beach. These three areas have some of the nicest golf courses in Charleston, but they’re also some of the most expensive areas to live. Kiawah Island has four golf courses - Cougar Point Golf Course, Turtle Point Golf Course, Osprey Point Golf Course, and the Ocean Course (pictured left). Seabrook Island has two courses - Ocean Winds Golf Course and Crooked Oaks Golf Course. Wild Dunes Resort also has two golf courses - the Harbor Course and the Links Course.

Mount Pleasant has several golf communities, including Rivertowne Country Club, Dunes West and Charleston National, which is one of the least expensive neighborhoods in Mt. Pleasant where you can buy homes on the golf course.

shadowmoss

West Ashley has one very large golfing community, Shadowmoss Plantation. This is one of the more affordable golf courses to play in Charleston, and the club allows walk-ons. Shadowmoss is one of the largest residential communities in West Ashley and features single family homes and townhouses.

John’s Island has one golf community, which is Hope Plantation (also called Kiawah River Estates). Although Oak Point Golf Course is located in Hope Plantation, the course is actually owned by Kiawah Island Resort. Most of the players are club members who live in Hope Plantation, Kiawah Island, or Seabrook Island. But, walk-ons are welcome, too.

There are two golf communities in North CharlestonCoosaw Creek and Wescott Plantation. Wescott Plantation is one of the largest residential communities in the Dorchester/Berkeley County area, and it sits between North Charleston and Summerville. While most of the homes in the neighborhood are considered to be in Summerville, the golf course sometimes considered part of North Charleston.

legend oaks

Summerville has two main golf communities, Legend Oaks Plantation and Pine Forest Country Club (pictured to the right). And, as we mentioned above, Wescott Plantation is usually considered part of Summerville, but it sometimes grouped in the North Charleston golf courses. As you’ll see in our list of Charleston golf courses at the bottom of the page, the Golf Club at Wescott Plantation has a mailing address for North Charleston.

Rural West Ashley has one main golfing community, Stono Ferry, which is one of the few neighborhoods in Charleston with an equestrian center, too. Rural West Ashley is about 40 minutes from downtown Charleston, so The Links is one of the furthest golf courses from Charleston.
